Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred, charged in late August in France with rape, was placed in custody on remand Tuesday, following a decision of the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal (South) after a prosecution appeal against his initial placement under judicial review.
Arrested on August 26 in Saint-Tropez, on the Côte d'Azur, after the complaint of a young woman for "facts characterized by rape" according to the prosecutor's office of Draguignan, and charged two days later, the pop star was placed under judicial control with prohibition to leave French territory and for a deposit of 150,000 euros.
The prosecutor's office, which had requested his detention on remand, appealed in September to the decision of the judge of liberties and detention.

Navy suit and white shirt, Saad Lamajarred, assisted by an interpreter in Arabic language, left Tuesday the room of the investigation chamber of the court of appeal, by the box of the prisoners at the end of a in camera hearing. A few relatives were waiting outside the door.

"This is a very disappointing decision - Mr Lamjarred is disputing the facts and the entirety of the accusations against him - he has shown in the past that he always honors judicial appointments," responded his lawyer Jean -Marc Fedida.

"We are going to take back our shepherd's staff," added Fedida, "so that at first he regains his freedom and then demonstrates that he is innocent."

The Moroccan star, whose clips have been watched millions of times on the internet, is targeted by several investigations for similar facts.

He has already been indicted in October 2016 in Paris for "aggravated rape" and "aggravated voluntary violence" and imprisoned. On the eve of a concert he was to give, a 20-year-old woman had lodged a complaint, claiming to have been assaulted by the singer in his hotel room.

Electronic bracelet
Saad Lamjarred was released in April 2017, under an electronic bracelet, following a decision of the Paris Court of Appeal. Also in April 2017, he is charged with "rape" in an open investigation after the complaint of a young Franco-Moroccan claiming to have been assaulted and beaten by the singer in Casablanca in 2015.
From a judicial source, the two investigations opened in Paris are over. The prosecution has yet to submit its requisitions, before the decision of the investigating judges to dismiss him or not to trial.

Saad Lamjarred was also charged in the United States in an alleged 2010 rape case, but the charges were dropped.

One of her first accusers Laura Prioul was shocked to see that Saad Lamjarred was at a place close to where she works. "I am extremely shocked that he has the right to wander unattended in Saint-Tropez, not far from the place where I work" What is needed to be aware of the reality of this character? ", if she asks
The lawyer Eric Dupond-Moretti announced at the end of August that he was no longer part of the defense of the Moroccan singer. Only to defend him, Me Jean-Marc Fedida, told the Franceinfo website, that his client had in Saint Tropez, "a sexual relationship consented". "There is no material evidence of violence or coercion," says the lawyer. A version that contradicts however the accusations of the victim.
Tonight the singer will spend the night behind bars.
